GLASSBORO, N.J. – In the 2018 season opener, the third ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team defeated Bridgewater College by a final score of 3-0.Â
In the opening half the Lions controlled the pace of the game. The defensive unit stifled the Bridgewater attack which led to a 9-0 edge in the shooting column in the first period. With five minutes to play
Alexa Beatty had a shot off of a corner kick, yet the Bridgewater keeper came up with the save to keep the game scoreless.
The Lions came out of halftime fast and built a two goal lead in the blink of an eye.
Julia Obst scored in the 50
th minute for the first goal of the season. Obst controlled a failed clear attempt inside of the box, and punched it in on the left side to put the Lions up by one. Four minutes later, a shot from Obst bounced off of the crossbar, and
Kelly Carolan gathered the rebound and found the back of the net to give the Lions a 2-0 advantage.
Arielle Curtis put the game away with a goal in the 87
th minute. Curtis collected a failed clear attempt in the center of the box, and put it in over the keeper to make it 3-0 TCNJ.
The Lions defensive unit held the clamps on the Bridgewater attack all game long, as they did not surrender a shot attempt and only allowed one corner. The Lions held a 23-0 edge in shots and a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Nicole DiPasquale earned the win in net.
Next up for the Lions is the home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5 against Penn State Berks at 7:30 p.m.
