Win Streak Reaches Five as No. 7 Women's Soccer Downs Pioneers

EWING, N.J. – The 7th ranked College of New Jersey women's soccer team defeated William Paterson University in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday by a
final score of 4-1. The Lions improve to 7-1 on the season including 4-0 in the NJAC while the Pioneers fall to 4-7 and 1-3 in conference play.

The Lions scored first just under 12 minutes in the game. Nikki Butler punched in a header off of a corner kick from Randi Smith to take a 1-0 advantage. The Pioneers had the answer as they countered with a header goal by Danielle Dachowski. Neither side was able to break the tie in the first half, and the Lions held a 13-1 shot advantage in the opening period.

The game did not remain tied for long, as the Lions came out of halftime and put up two goals in just over a minute. Julianna Bertolino shot one from the left side that hit the crossbar, and Taylor Nolan controlled the rebound and punched in a header. Just over 60 seconds later, Smith connected with Butler again, and Butler beat the keeper to make it a 3-1 Lion lead.

Lauren McLaughlin scored her first career goal in the 81st minute to put the Lions up 4-1. McLaughlin sent an arcing shot that from 20 yards out that slipped inside of the left post.

The Lions held a 33-1 advantage in shots as well as a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.

Next up for TCNJ is an away game at York College of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
