EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's tennis team won a pair of dual matches Wednesday afternoon defeating Division I Delaware State University 8-1 before defeating NJAC foe Stockton University 9-0. The Lions are now 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. The Hornets dropped to 0-1, while the Ospreys are 0-2 overall and in league play.
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in doubles play against Delaware State getting 6-3 and 6-4 victories from the pairings of
Liya Davidov and
Katrine Luddy and
Alyssa Baldi and
Navya Yemula respectively. With all eyes turning to
Grace Minassian and
Andrea Giacobbo, the Lions duo pulled through with a 7-5 win.
In singles play, Baldi was leading in the first set when her opponent was forced to retire.
Emily Szkudlarski clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 straight set victory.
Sarah Phung, Davidov, and Luddy were all victorious in three sets.
Against Stockton, TCNJ again raced out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play with each pair winning via identical 8-1 scores.
TCNJ won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Audrey Chen and
Mackenzie Holleran each saw their first action of the day and cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories.
The Lions will take to the road for the first time in the fall season when they travel to Rutgers-Camden Thursday, Sept. 6 for a 5:00 p.m. start.
