EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey field hockey team put on an offensive display Saturday night in Lions Stadium, defeating Juniata College 5-1. The third ranked Lions improve to 2-0 on the young season, while the Eagles suffer their first defeat on the year and are 2-1.

The Lions got on the board just under five minutes into the contest.
Kayla Peterson blasted a shot off a penalty corner for her second of the season. Midway through the first half,
Tori Tiefenthaler sliced through the Eagle defense and found the back of the cage. After receiving a long entry pass by
Sidney Padilla, Tiefenthaler put the Lions up 3-0 going into the break.

The Eagles would not go quietly into the night, controlling play for the opening nine minutes of the second half. Grace Alexander collected a loose ball and cut the deficit to two.

After a Lions timeout, TCNJ regathered its composure and scored less than three minutes later off a penalty corner. It was Tiefenthaler completing her second career hat trick.

Cayla Andrews completed the scoring in the 66
th minute.

TCNJ out-shot Juniata 16-9 in the game, including a 14-1 advantage in the first half.

Maddie Beaumont made five saves to pick up her second straight win.

The Lions return home tomorrow afternoon for a game against Albright College at 1:00 p.m.
