EWING, N.J. –  The College of New Jersey men's basketball team led wire to wire and picked up a New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday night by a final score of 92-65.
The Lions began the game with an 11-0 run.
Ryan Jensen scored on a lay-up to make it 8-0, then a few possessions later
Mike Walley hit a corner three to put TCNJ up 11.
Walley would strike again from downtown at the 11:48 mark, then
Joe Montano sank one from three-point territory to stretch the Lion lead to 17-4.
Travis Jocelyn would convert on a put back lay-up, then hit a three-pointer of his own to stretch the TCNJ lead to 23-10 with 9:10 to go in the opening half.
Jensen would grab a rebound and convert on an and-one to put the Lions out in front 32-16 with 5:36 to go in the half.
Randall Walko would hit back-to-back threes to put TCNJ ahead 38-20 at the 4:13 mark.
With 1:37 to go in the opening stanza, Jocelyn would hit a three-pointer to put the Lions out in front 46-28, then Montano hit from deep again to make it a 46-28 lead.
Jordan Glover would score on a strong take to the bucket with a couple of seconds left, and the Lions took a 48-30 lead into the locker room. TCNJ shot 9-20 from three-point territory in the first half.
The Lions continued to shoot the basketball well in the second half. Glover knocked down a triple, then
Niall Carpenter found a rhythm as he went 4-for-4 from long range in a four minute span. Jocelyn hit one from downtown, then a pair of Glover free throws put TCNJ out in front 82-49. The Lions were able to control the remainder of the game to secure the win.
Jensen led the Lions with 21 points on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting, and added a game-high 15 rebounds. Walko scored 16 points, while Carpenter added 15 and Jocelyn contributed 14.
P.J. Ringel spread the ball around well as he tallied seven assists.
As a team, TCNJ played unselfish basketball as they racked up 26 assists on 33 field goals. The Lions knocked down 15 three-pointers on the evening, and outrebounded the Scarlet Raptors 52-32.
TCNJ will return to the court this Saturday, Feb. 2 when it will travel to Ramapo College for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
