EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team tied to Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Saturday by a final score of 1-1. The Lions became 9-2-3 overall and 1-1-3 in NJAC play, while Kean now stands at 8-4-2 and 2-1-2 in the NJAC.
TCNJ had its best scoring chance in the first half in the 20
th minute. Off of a free kick,
Ryan Vazquez took a header that was heading to the top of the net, but the Kean keeper made a leaping save to get a piece of it.
The Cougars scored in the 67
th minute. Kean sent in a shot that was saved by TCNJ keeper
Daniel Mecadon, but the rebound went straight to Nick Kovach who punched it in to make it 1-0.
TCNJ tied up the game in the 83
rd minute.
Joseph Schlageter net his first collegiate career goal to notch things up at 1-1.
Dante Bettino had a shot from inside the box that was blocked by a defender, yet the loose ball went right to Schlageter. He punched it in to draw TCNJ even.
Justin Dominique had a shot in the 86
th minute that went just outside of the right post. The game went into overtime, and the intense battle continued. With less than a minute to play in the second overtime, Vazquez had an opportunity to end it yet his shot sailed high.
Mecadon tallied five saves on then night for TCNJ.
Next up for TCNJ is a road trip to Stockton University on Oct. 16.
