JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team defeated New Jersey City University on Saturday by a final score of 2-0. The Lions improved to 10-2-3 with the win including 2-1-3 in conference action, while the Gothic Knights dipped to 11-7 and 0-7 in the NJAC.
TCNJ scored first early in the 12
th minute.
Justin Dominique scored to put the Lions up top 1-0. He punched in a low right shot off of an assist from
Ryan Santos for his fourth goal of the year. That score held throughout the first half. TCNJ had a 9-7 edge in shots in the opening period.
The Lions scored early in the second half as well.
Kevin Esteves scored in the 54
th minute to double the lead to 2-0.
Luke Yates sent in a long throw in that bounced across the box and found Esteves, who tapped it in. The score was the fourth of the year for him.
The 2-0 lead proved to be more than enough for the TCNJ defense.
Daniel Mecadon pitched the shutout in net, and recorded eight saves on the contest.
