MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The College of New Jersey field hockey team got a late first half goal from
Cayla Andrews and strong defensive effort to make the lead hold up in a 1-0 win over Montclair State Saturday evening. With the win, the second-ranked Lions improved to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in NJAC play. The 20
th-ranked Red Hawks fall to 8-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

TCNJ applied pressure to the Red Hawks defense throughout the first half, but were constantly turned away. On the Lions 15
th penalty corner of the half, they finally broke through.
Kayla Peterson ripped a long ball from just outside the circle. Andrews made the deflection past the Montclair State goalie to put TCNJ on top. The goal is the 22
nd of the season for Andrews, most in the nation. TCNJ held the 1-0 lead into the half.

The Red Hawk defense continued to hold strong against the potent Lions attack, making a total of eight saves to keep TCNJ from extending the lead. In the game's final minute, Montclair State earned a penalty corner. Katelyn Osterlind ripped a shot from the top left of the circle.
Maddie Beaumont kicked aside the shot to the corner, where the Lions gained possession and closed out the remaining seconds.

The win is the seventh shutout in 13 games for the Lions this year.

TCNJ out-shot the Red Hawks 19-3 in the game, and the Lions held a 22-4 advantage in penalty corners.

TCNJ returns home Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game against seventh-ranked Rowan.
