CAMDEN, N.J. – The No. 4/7 TCNJ women's soccer team defeated Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC match on Wednesday by a final score of 5-1. The Lions improved to 9-1 including 3-0 in the conference, while the Scarlet Raptors fell to 2-7 and 1-2 in the NJAC. The win marked the sixth straight for TCNJ.
TCNJ scored first right away by way of a
Nikki Butler goal a minute and 13 seconds in. The Scarlet Raptor defense failed to clear the ball in the box, and
Randi Smith wound up with it. Smith left it to Butler who punched in a high shot from the top of the box to make it 1-0.
That score held up until the 41
st minute, when TCNJ struck again.
Lindsay O'Keefe found the back of the net off of a
Haley Bodden assist. Bodden passed it from the top of the box to the left post where O'Keefe was. She finished it to make it a 2-0 lead.
Only two minutes later the Lions scored again.
Ava Garay found the back of the net on a high shot, and was assisted by
Caroline Rubin.
TCNJ out-shot Rutgers-Camden 15-2 in the opening half.
Lauren McLaughlin scored 11 minutes into the second half to extend the advantage to 4-0. She picked up a loose ball on the right side up top in the box. She shot it inside the left post to put TCNJ up by four.
The final goal came in the 86
th minute.
Jessica O'Brien scored on a high shot outside of the box from the left side to make it a 5-1 lead. She was assisted by O'Keefe.
TCNJ out-shot Rutgers-Camden 15-2 on the evening.
The Lions return to action Saturday, Oct. 5 for another NJAC match. They will travel to William Paterson for a 5:00 p.m. start.
