WAYNE, N.J. – The No. 4/7 TCNJ women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over William Paterson University on Saturday. The Lions improved to 10-1 including 4-0 in the NJAC with the win, while the Pioneers dipped to 5-4-2 and 1-2-1 in the conference. The win marked the seventh in a row for the Lions.
TCNJ scored first in the 21
st minute by way of a
Kelly Carolan goal.
Randi Smith passed in a corner that found Carolan near the top of the box. Carolan fired it and the ball slipped inside of the left post to put the Lions ahead 1-0.
Carolan has been a big offensive contributor for TCNJ this year, as that was her sixth goal of the season. Smith has been a consistent play maker, as that was her seventh assist of the year.
That goal proved to be enough for the strong TCNJ defensive unit. The Lions held an 11-1 edge in shots in the first half. That trend held up in the second half, as TCNJ posted another 11-1 shot lead to tally a 22-2 advantage on the match. TCNJ also held a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.
Nora Burdge led the Lions with three shots, while six TCNJ players got off two shots.
In net for the Lions was
Nicole DiPasquale, who picked up a save and earned her fifth shutout of the year.
Next up for TCNJ is a road trip to Kean University on Oct. 12.
