Peterson Selected NFHCA National Player of the Week

10/23/2019 2:15:00 PM

GILBERT, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its selections for National Players of the Week Wednesday. Kayla Peterson of The College of New Jersey was chosen as the Play Safe Turf and Track NFHCA Division III National Defensive Player of the Week. Peterson becomes the second Lions this season to earn National Player of the Week honors following Cayla Andrews.

Peterson and the Lions defense were key to a pair of victories during the past week. Across a pair of wins, TCNJ allowed just a single goal and six total shots on goal. In the closing minute of the Lions 1-0 victory over 20th-ranked Montclair State, Peterson and the remainder of the Lions penalty corner defense pushed aside the Red Hawks final scoring opportunity. Peterson was just as good on the offensive end, scoring a goal and adding an assist in the Lions 3-1 win over Albright. She also assisted on TCNJ's lone goal in the win over Montclair State.

"It's really cool," said Peterson. "To know that all the hard work we are all putting in is being recognized. The NJAC is one of the most competitive conferences in the country and we go in to each game knowing that it is going to be a challenge."
