EWING, N.J. – The No. 2/4 TCNJ women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie with Stockton University on Wednesday night. The Lions now stand at 12-1-1 on the year including 6-0-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action. Stockton became 12-2-2 and 4-1-2 in the conference.
The Lions had a chance in the 13
th minute, when
Amelia Curtis sent a blistering shot from 16 yards out. It was saved by the Stockton goalkeeper Jennifer Devault. In the 40
th minute,
Caroline Rubin took a shot off of a free kick that was denied by Devault. TCNJ posted a 7-0 edge in shots in the first half.
The hard fought game continued in the second period. The Lion offense continued to put pressure on the Stockton defense, yet Devault did not allow them to get past her.
Randi Smith took a shot in the 61
st minute that was denied, then
Gianna Coppola let one rip that was saved by Devault.
With over a minute to play in the second overtime,
Nikki Butler took a shot that was heading into the bottom left part of the net, yet Devault made a diving save to keep the game tied.
TCNJ's defensive unit shut down the Stockton attack, as the Lions out-shot the Ospreys 18-1 on the game.
Nicole DiPasquale earned the shutout in net.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they will travel to Montclair State University.
