No. 2/4 Women's Soccer Downs Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The No. 2/4 TCNJ women's soccer team defeated Montclair State University, 3-0, on Saturday. TCNJ came out on top in a fight for first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Lions now stand at 13-1-1 on the season including 7-0-1 in NJAC play. The Red Hawks dipped to 11-5-2 and 6-1-1 in the conference.

TCNJ got out in front quick when Taylor Nolan scored in the eighth minute. Nolan was assisted by Gianna Coppola, and the score was the fourth of the year for Nolan.
Montclair State got off a couple of shots after Nolan's goal, yet TCNJ goalkeeper Nicole DiPasquale made a pair of saves.

The Lions added another in the 18th minute. Once again Coppola made a play, as she set up Randi Smith who punched it in to make it a 2-0 advantage. The score marked the fourth of the season for Smith.

DiPasquale made another pair of saves in the 20th and 24th minute to keep the Red Hawks off of the scoreboard. TCNJ took the 2-0 advantage into the locker room.

The Lions added the third goal of the afternoon quickly in the second half. Kelly Carolan scored in the 48th minute to make it a 3-0 lead. The score was the seventh on the season for Carolan.

The 3-0 lead proved to be more than enough for DiPasquale and the TCNJ defense. She tallied five saves on the day en route to picking up the shutout victory.

The Lions return to the pitch on Oct. 30 to take on Rowan University. That will also be the Lions' senior night.
