No. 4/4 Women's Soccer Beats Rowan on Senior Night

EWING, N.J. – The No. 4/4 College of New Jersey women's soccer team defeated Rowan University in the regular season finale by a final score of 3-0. TCNJ concludes the regular season with a record of 14-1-1 including 8-0-1 in NJAC play. The Lions will have the number one seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Neither side was able to push a goal over in the first half, and the game went scoreless into halftime. The Lions had a good chance in the 18th minute, when Taylor Nolan sent in a header off of a Randi Smith corner kick from in close. Rowan goalkeeper Bristol Pizzuto was able to make a diving save heading to her right. Right before the half ended, Julia Obst sent in a corner kick. Haley Bodden took a shot from 15 yards out yet it sailed just wide right.

The Lions came out of the gate fast in the second half, and grabbed control of the game. Gianna Coppola put TCNJ on the board in the 53rd minute. She ran down a deflected ball, and got control of it at the 18. After a touch created some space, Coppola fired one from 15 yards out that slipped inside of the left post to put TCNJ ahead 1-0.

TCNJ netted another goal 15 minutes later. Obst challenged the Rowan defender after she acquired a pass from the keeper. Obst was able to win the challenge, and retained possession of the ball after it popped up in the air. She let one rip from 20 yards out that found the back of the net to make it a 2-0 advantage.

In the 74th minute, Bodden scored on a free kick from 25 yards out to make it a 3-0 lead for TCNJ.

Nicole DiPasquale picked up the shutout win in net. The Lions out-shot the Profs 33-2 on the night, and held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

Prior to the game, TCNJ held senior night to honor its senior class of Haley Bodden, Nora Burdge, Ally DeRiggi, Nicole DiPasquale, Despina Lianidis, Jen McGrogan, Taylor Nolan, and Alexa Pestritto for all of their contributions to the program the last four years.

TCNJ will resume play for the NJAC semifinal on Nov. 5 at home. TCNJ will find out its opponent after the first round games on Nov. 2.
