Men's Hoops Downs Old Westbury

MADISON, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's basketball team defeated The College at Old Westbury by a final score of 84-69 on Sunday. TCNJ became 2-1 on the year while Old Westbury fell to 0-2.

The Panthers took an 11-10 lead five minutes in, yet TCNJ built an eight point lead by way of a 19-10 stretch. Travis Jocelyn netted a couple of buckets in the paint, then Tommy Egan knocked down a three-pointer to put the Lions ahead 29-21.

With five minutes to play in the first half, Egan came up with a steal, and found Sterling White on the fast break. White finished to put TCNJ on top 38-25. Jim Clemente converted on an and-one to extend the lead to 42-30 with three minutes to play in the half. The Lions took a 47-35 lead into the break.

Two minutes into the second half, P.J. Ringel registered a steal, then found Jocelyn who hit a lay-up on the fast break. TCNJ took its biggest lead of the game when Mike Walley sank a three-pointer to make it a 58-38 lead with 16:23 to play. The Lions controlled the rest of the game, and didn't let the Panthers back within double-digits the rest of the way.

Randall Walko led TCNJ with 24 points, and added six rebounds. Jocelyn scored 23 and grabbed nine rebounds. Ryan Jensen scored nine points and tallied eight boards, while Clemente scored eight points and added four rebounds. Jocelyn was named to the Drew Rose City Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Lions resume action at Swarthmore College on Nov. 20.
