GALLOWAY, N.J. – The College of New Jersey field hockey team closed out its undefeated regular season Saturday. The top-ranked Lions topped Stockton 5-1 to improve to 16-0 overall and 6-0 in NJAC play. The Ospreys end the regular season 14-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play. These team will have a quick turnaround when they meet in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament on Wednesday.
The Lions got off to a quick start when
Jess Hatch converted on a penalty stroke just over four minutes into the game. Just before the end of the first quarter,
Tori Tiefenthaler scored to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Early in the second quarter, Hatch tipped in a cross from
Tori Hannah to give TCNJ a 3-0 lead. Stockton responded with a goal less than 30 seconds later.
Samantha Reed received a pass from
Camryn Ley and deked around the goalie to score and give TCNJ a 4-1 lead at the half. Reed then assisted on the Lions final goal of the day finding
Cayla Andrews for her 27
th goal of the season.
Maddie Beaumont made a pair of saves to earn the victory.
