HOBOKEN, N.J. – In the last game of the Stevens Holiday Classic, The College of New Jersey women's basketball team fell to a tough opponent in No. 1 Tufts University by a final tally of 68-35. The Lions slipped to 6-5 on the season, while the top ranked Jumbos climbed to 10-0.
Elle Cimilluca knocked down a three-pointer to get TCNJ on the scoreboard ahead 3-0. After the Jumbos recorded a pair of buckets,
Rachel Gazzola scored from in close to make it a 5-4 game. Cimilluca made another trifecta to put TCNJ ahead 8-7. The Jumbos closed out the first quarter with a 12-8 lead.
The top ranked Jumbos controlled the second quarter, and opened up a 19 point advantage.
Jen Byrne scored on a lay-up in the paint, then Cimilluca struck again from three-point range to cut the deficit to 32-15. Tufts was able to control the game in the second half and secure the victory.
Byrne led TCNJ with 13 points. She also added five rebounds and three blocked shots. Cimilluca tallied nine points on the afternoon, while
Shannon Devitt grabbed ten rebounds.
The Lions will return to the hardwood on Jan. 4 to face Rutgers-Camden at home.
