Softball Drops a Pair to Lynchburg in Salisbury Invitational

SALISBURY, M.D. – The College of New Jersey softball team was defeated in a pair of games by Lynchburg University in a doubleheader on Sunday. The Lions were topped 5-3 in nine innings in game one, before falling 15-3 in game two.

In game one TCNJ took the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. Allie Immerso stole third then scored on a throwing error. Katie Winchock then drove in Gaby Bennett with an RBI groundout to give TCNJ the edge.

Lynchburg would tie the game up 2-2 in the fourth inning, and that tie held place until the ninth. Alanna Namit found a rhythm in the circle, as she allowed only one hit from the fifth through the eighth inning. Namit would rack up four strikeouts on the afternoon.

TCNJ broke through in the ninth inning with an RBI fielder's choice from Marissa Devincenzo. Lynchburg would take the game with a three run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In game two, the Lions grabbed an early lead when Lauren Conroy doubled in a run in the first inning. The Hornets would go back on top in the second inning with six runs. They extended the lead to 15-1 after the fourth inning.

The Lions pushed over a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Jess McGuire knocked in Winchock with an RBI single to center field. Conroy would then score on a fielder's choice off of the bat of Megan Mayernik.

Conroy went 3-6 with two runs scored and an RBI on the day. McGuire went 3-6 as well with the RBI, and Winchock went 1-2 with two runs scored in the second game. Bennett went 2-3 in game two.
