EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey men's tennis team continued its unbeaten start to the 2018-19 season, defeating New York University 5-4 Saturday afternoon. The 30
th-ranked Lions improved to 6-0 on the season, while the Violets fell to 3-3.
TCNJ was strong in doubles play as they have been all season.
Matthew Michibata and
Tim Gavornik cruised to an 8-1 win at number one.
Mitchel Sanders and
Thomas Wright combined for an 8-3 victory at number two.
Matt Puig and
Justin Wain forced a tiebreak at number three, but ultimately dropped the match.
In singles play, all six matches were won in straight sets. At number three, Wain won three and four. Gavornik won his opening set 6-4, then won in a tiebreak to capture the match. Wright clinched the team victory at number six, winning three and four.
The Lions close out their homestand with a match against Haverford College Wednesday, Mar. 20 at 4 p.m.
