EWING, N.J. – For a third consecutive match and fourth time this season, The College of New Jersey men's tennis team took a 5-4 decision Wednesday afternoon over Haverford College. The 30
th-ranked Lions remained unbeaten, improving to 7-0 on the season. The Fords dropped to 3-4.
TCNJ jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play as all three matches went to tiebreaks.
Matthew Michibata and
Tim Gavornik won at number one.
Mitchel Sanders and
Thomas Wright picked up the victory at number two.
In singles play, Haverford picked up wins at two and three, while TCNJ countered with wins at five and six. Sanders was going to a third set at number one and Gavornik trailed a set and 3-5 at number four. Gavornik fought off six match points, winning four straight game to force a third set. Sanders would go on to fall in the third set, leaving just Gavornik on the court. Gavornik was dominant in the final set, earning the clinching team point.
The Lions now travel to Virginia where they will take on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in a neutral site contest Friday. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
