No. 30 Men's Tennis Rolls Over Warhawks

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The College of New Jersey men's tennis team made a large statement toward earning an NCAA bid Friday afternoon. The 30th-ranked Lions improved to 8-0 by defeating pool B rival University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-3. The Warhawks fell to 7-3 with the loss.

The Warhawks scored the first point of the day with a win at first doubles. The Lions quickly responded as Mitchel Sanders and Thomas Wright as well as Matt Puig and Justin Wain earned 8-4 victories at number two and three respectively.

Matthew Michibata and Sanders each won in straight sets at number two and one in singles play to put the Lions on the verge of the team victory. A pair of Warhawk victories at four and three cut the lead to just one. Puig pitched a shutout in the deciding third set at number five to clinch the team win. Wright earned a three set victory at number six to produce the final score.

The Lions will be right back at it when they face host Mary Washington at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
