Softball Keeps Rolling With Two More Wins

PLANT CITY, Fla. – The TCNJ softball team continued its undefeated start to the Florida Sunkissed Games with two more wins on Thursday. The Lions topped Oswego State 9-0 and followed that up with a 5-1 victory over Messiah College.

In game one Lauren Conroy got the Lions on the board with an RBI groundout in the first inning. TCNJ scored a pair of runs in the second inning. Helena Coppola scored on a fielder's choice, then Gaby Bennett knocked in the third run with an RBI groundout.

TCNJ added six runs in the third to blow the game open and take a 9-0 lead. Marissa Devincenzo knocked in two with a double to make it 7-0. Allie Immerso drove in another with an RBI double, then Conroy added the final run with an RBI sac fly. Alanna Namit earned the win in the circle. She went four shutout innings and allowed only two hits while striking out seven.

In the second game, Messiah was the one to strike early as it scored in the first to go ahead 1-0. TCNJ tied up the game in the third when Bennett drove in a run with an RBI sacrifice fly. Conroy continued to be a productive bat and singled to left center to put the Lions on top 2-1.

After taking the lead the Lions never looked back. Eliza Sweet threw a strong game in the circle. She did not allow any more runs after the first inning, and allowed only six hits on the game.

The score remained 2-1 until the seventh inning, when the Lions added three insurance runs. Conroy worked a bases loaded walk to push the first over, then Jess McGuire continued to swing a hot bat and drove two in with a single through the left side.

Sweet was able to slam the door in the bottom of the seventh to give TCNJ its eighth straight victory. She earned the win and struck out seven batters on the afternoon.

TCNJ will round out the Sunkissed Games tomorrow. The Lions will take on New York University at 10:00 a.m. then Oswego State at 12:15 p.m.
