PLANT CITY, Fla. – The TCNJ softball team concluded the Florida Sunkissed Games with a split on Friday. The Lions fell to NYU 8-3 in the first game before coming back to defeat Oswego State 9-0 in the second game.
In game one,
Kaitlin Kocinski pushed over a pair of runs with an RBI double to right center field in the second inning. Kocinski remained locked in at the plate, as she struck again with another RBI double in the fourth to give the Lions a 3-1 edge.
NYU tied the game up with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, then took the lead with a two run home run. The Violets were able to push over three insurance runs in the sixth inning and hold onto the win.
TCNJ got two runs on the board in the opening inning of the game against Oswego State.
Jess McGuire drove in a pair with a single to left field to give TCNJ the 2-0 lead. In the third inning,
Lauren Conroy ripped a triple to right center that put the Lions up 4-0.
Megan Mayernik drove in Conroy with a base knock to left.
Lindsay Zengel legged out a swinging bunt in the fourth inning and advanced to second on a throwing error. After taking third on a stolen base, she scored on a
Gaby Bennett double to left field. Conroy drove in Bennett with an RBI single, then
Camryn Davies snuck a single down the third base line that scored a pair to put the Lions up 9-0.
Eliza Sweet earned the win in the circle, and continued her efficient pitching. She allowed just three hits en route to the shutout victory.
TCNJ will return to the Garden State tomorrow, and resume action for the home opener on March 27 against DeSales University.
