Mayernik Picks up 100th Hit and Namit Throws No-Hitter in Softball's Sweep

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey softball team swept DeSales University in the home opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions took game one by a final score of 6-0 and won 10-1 in game two. Alanna Namit threw a no-hitter to lead the charge in game one. Also in game one, Megan Mayernik recorded her 100th career hit.

The Lions got on the board right away in the first inning of game one. Lauren Conroy laced a base hit to right center field to make it a 1-0 game. Conroy struck again in the third as she knocked in another run with a base hit. Mayernik then snuck a double inside of the third base line to put TCNJ ahead 3-0. Annalise Suitovsky drove a double into right center to make it a four run lead.

Mayernik achieved her 100th career hit with a base knock to left field in the fifth inning. She has started in all 91 games for TCNJ since she joined the team in 2017, and has posted a career average of .366 heading into today's games.

Kaitlin Kocinski drove in a run with an RBI groundout to make it 5-0 in the fifth, and Mayernik scored on an error to push the sixth run across. The offense proved to be more than enough for Namit. The sophomore righty was in the zone, as she struck out 10 Bulldogs en route to her fifth career no-hitter.

TCNJ carried over the momentum into game two. Elyse Nardozza singled to right field to make it a 1-0 game in the second inning. Katie Winchock worked a bases loaded walk to drive the second run in.

In the third inning, Kocinski hit a two run home run to put the Lions up 4-0. The homer was a high arcing bomb that sailed over the right center fence.

The Lions scored six runs in the fourth inning to take command of the game. Winchock slid under the tag at home plate to make it a 5-1 edge. Conroy drove in two with a base hit, then Gaby Bennett picked up a two RBI single of her own to put the Lions up 9-1. Nardozza pushed over the tenth run with a base hit.

Eliza Sweet shut down the DeSales offense in the circle. She pitched five innings and allowed only one run to pick up her sixth win of the year.

TCNJ will resume play for the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener at Ramapo College on Saturday. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
