No. 20 Softball Sweeps Rutgers-Camden to Push Win Streak to 11

EWING, N.J. – The No. 20 TCNJ softball team swept Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday afternoon in New Jersey Athletic Conference action. TCNJ took game one by a final score of 2-0 and followed that up with a 5-0 victory in the second game. The Lions have now won a remarkable 19 of the last 20 games including 11 in a row.

TCNJ (21-5, 8-0 NJAC) struck first when Jess McGuire singled up the middle in the third inning. McGuire has been difficult to get out at the plate this year, as she had a batting average of .509 to go alongside an on base percentage of .640 heading into today. She was first in all of NCAA Division III in on base percentage coming into today's games.

TCNJ added a run in the fourth inning when Elyse Nardozza tallied an RBI with a groundout. The Scarlet Raptors poised a scoring threat in the fifth inning with a leadoff double, however starting pitcher Eliza Sweet got out of trouble with three consecutive pop outs. Sweet shut down the Rutgers-Camden offense and earned her fifth complete game shutout of the season.

Game two was a scoreless tie until the fourth inning. Nardozza slipped a base hit inside of the third base line that drove in a pair of runs. The Lions added another in the fifth inning to grab a 3-0 advantage. Lauren Conroy belted a line drive home run to center field to put TCNJ up three.

In the sixth inning, Allie Immerso drove an RBI double into the gap to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Megan Mayernik then slapped a base hit to right center to put the Lions ahead 5-0.

Alanna Namit mowed down the Rutgers-Camden batters in the circle. She threw the complete game shutout and allowed just two hits on the afternoon. She now owns a record of 10-2 on the season.

The Lions return to the diamond on Saturday, April 13 for a trip to Montclair State University. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
