No. 20 Softball Splits With No. 12 Rowan

EWING N.J. – The No. 20 TCNJ softball team split with No. 12 Rowan University in NJAC action on Tuesday afternoon. Rowan took a seesaw battle in game one 5-4, then the Lions prevailed in another exciting ballgame by a final score of 4-3.

In the first game, Kaitlin Kocinski launched a solo home run to center field to put the Lions in front 1-0. Kocinski has supplied power consistently this season, as that was her fifth homer of the year.

The Profs took the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. The Lions came right back and tied it up by way of a Jess McGuire double to left field, and the score remained notched at 2-2 until the sixth inning.

The Lions jumped back out on top in the sixth when Gaby Bennett slapped an RBI single up the middle. The next batter was Camryn Davies, who put together a strong at bat. She ripped a double into left center that made it a 4-2 ballgame.

In the top of the seventh inning, Rowan took the lead with three runs. The Profs were able to seal the deal in the bottom half of the seventh to hang onto the win.

In game two, Rowan took the lead with a run in the first inning. TCNJ countered with a pair of runs in the third inning. Lauren Conroy drove an RBI double into the left center field gap to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

The back and forth afternoon continued, as Rowan tied it up 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. That trend remained, as the Profs took a 3-2 lead, yet the Lions jumped out in front once again in the fifth. McGuire belted a two run shot to left field to give TCNJ a 4-3 edge. The round tripper was the sixth of the season which leads the squad.

In the top of the sixth, the Profs poised a scoring threat with a leadoff double. Kristen Barrera came on in relief, and pitched out of trouble. She induced a pair of ground outs and a pop out to preserve the lead.

Barerra slammed the door on Rowan in the seventh inning to give TCNJ the win. The six out save marked the first save of her career. Tori Aguilar earned the win. She tallied a pair of outs for her third win of the season.

TCNJ will hit the road on Saturday, April 20 for a conference doubleheader at New Jersey City University. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
