GALLOWAY, N.J. – The winning continued for the TCNJ softball team on Tuesday. The Lions swept the doubleheader against Stockton University, by scores of 9–0 and 6-0. TCNJ has now won seven in a row and 15 out of its last 16 games.
The Lions (17-5, 4-0 NJAC) struck first yet again in the third inning.
Kaitlin Kocinski continued to swing a hot bat as she laced a base hit to make it a 1-0 ballgame.
TCNJ scored the second run by way of an
Allie Immerso groundout, and went up 3-0 when Kocinski singled for her second RBI of the day.
Francesca Pugliese scored from first base on an error to extend the lead to 4-0 after five.
The scoring continued with two more in the sixth and three in the seventh to give TCNJ a commanding 9-0 lead.
Lauren Conroy ripped an RBI double, then
Lindsay Zengel scored on an error to put TCNJ up 6-0 after six.
In the seventh inning, Immerso tacked on another with an RBI single. Conroy then drove in two with an RBI base hit. Conroy was locked in at the plate, as she went a remarkable 5-5 with three RBIs, two runs scored, and the double. Kocinski went 3-5 with the two RBIs, and
Eliza Sweet threw a complete game shutout to advance her record to 8-2.
In game two, TCNJ kept the pressure on with a run in the first inning.
Jess McGuire drove an RBI double to left to make it a 1-0 game.
Elyse Nardozza pushed it to 2-0 with an RBI double to right center.
McGuire struck again in the third inning with a two run bomb to left field. The homer was her fourth on the season and put TCNJ up 4-0. Immerso scored the fifth run with effective base running, as she stole third base then scored on the throwing error to make it 5-0. Nardozza tacked on the sixth run with a sac fly in the fifth inning.
Alanna Namit threw another dominant outing in the circle. She allowed only one hit to pick up her eighth win of the campaign. McGuire went 2-2 with three RBIs and the run scored in game two.
On the day the Lions outhit the Ospreys 22-5.
TCNJ will return to action on Saturday, April 6 when it welcomes Kean University to Dr. June Walker Field. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
