Softball Sweeps No. 18 Kean to Push Winning Streak to Nine

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ softball team continued its winning streak with a sweep over No. 18 Kean University on Saturday. The Lions won an exciting game one 7-6 then took game two 5-0.

TCNJ won by way of a walk-off in the first game. With two outs and the bases loaded, Lauren Conroy laced an RBI single to give the Lions the win. Conroy has been a tremendous asset in the TCNJ lineup, as she is hitting .486 with a team high 31 RBIs on the season.

The Lions hopped out to a 5-0 lead in the first game. Kaitlin Kocinski earned a tough RBI as she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning. In the second, the Lions made it a 4-0 ballgame. Megan Mayernik drove one in with an RBI double, then Katie Winchock knocked in Mayernik with an RBI double of her own. Conroy continued that trend as she hit a double to left to make it a four run lead. Gaby Bennett pushed over the fifth run with an RBI groundout.

Kean pulled to within 5-2, then Kocinski drove in the sixth run with an RBI double. The Cougars refused to let the Lions take the game easily however, and rallied to tie it up with four runs in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom half of the seventh, Annalise Suitovsky got it going with a base hit. Allie Immerso then slapped a single over the third basemen. With two outs, pinch hitter Camryn Davies worked a key walk to keep the scoring chance alive. Conroy then ended it when she ripped a base hit to right center to give the Lions the walk-off win.

Tori Aguilar earned her second career win. She came on in relief and recorded the final two outs of the seventh inning to take home the victory.

TCNJ kept the pressure on in game two. Mayernik knocked in the first run with an RBI groundout in the third inning. In the fourth, Kocinski skied a two run home run to right center to put the Lions ahead 3-0.

Kocinski would strike again in the sixth inning. She belted another high arcing homer to center field to put TCNJ up 5-0. The sophomore has been a key bat in the Lions' lineup, as those were her third and fourth home runs of the season.

Alanna Namit shut down the Kean bats in the circle. She pitched a complete game shutout, and allowed only two hits. She struck out eight batters on the afternoon.

The Lions have now won nine straight, and impressively have won 17 of their last 18 games. They hit the diamond Tuesday for another home NJAC doubleheader, this time against Rutgers-Camden.
