EWING, N.J. –The No. 12 TCNJ softball team defeated Ramapo College in the NJAC Tournament on Friday afternoon by a final score of 4-0. The top-seeded Lions eliminated the fourth-seeded Roadrunners with the win.
The first three innings were scoreless. TCNJ starting pitcher
Eliza Sweet was able to limit the Roadrunner chances, as she scattered three hits over four and a third innings. The Lions got on the board first, when
Gaby Bennett knocked
Katie Winchock in with an RBI groundout.
Ramapo poised a scoring threat in the bottom of the fourth, as they had runners on first and second with only one out.
Alanna Namit came out of the bullpen and squandered the opportunity. She got a fly out and a strikeout to escape and preserve the shutout.
In the sixth inning, Bennett made it a 2-0 game with another RBI groundout. Pinch hitter
Annalise Suitovsky delivered a clutch, two out base hit to extend the Lions lead to 3-0.
The last run came in on an RBI double from
Lauren Conroy in the seventh inning.
Sweet improved to 14-3 with the win, and Namit earned her second save of the year.
TCNJ will take on Rowan University as the NJAC Tourney continues tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
