SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The College of New Jersey women's soccer team defeated Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday night by a final tally of 7-0. The Lions won their second game in as many days with the win tonight.
TCNJ (2-0) got out in front early with a
Randi Smith goal in the fifth minute.
Taylor Nolan had a pass get deflected from inside of the box, and the ball wound up at Smith's feet by the right post. Smith beat the keeper with a low shot to make it a 1-0 game.
Only four minutes later,
Nikki Butler made it a 2-0 lead. She took a very long pass from
Jen McGrogan and created some space to get away from two defenders. From about 30 yards out, Butler got off a rocket shot that landed in the top right corner of the net. The goal was her second in as many days.
TCNJ dominated the first half, as it out-shot Eastern Connecticut State 13-1.
Nolan would get a goal of her own in the 53
rd minute.
Kelly Carolan sent in a pass from the left side that found Nolan in front of the net, and the senior midfielder beat the keeper to extend the Lion lead to 3-0.
The Lions kept the pressure on after that, and scored three goals in less than eight minutes.
Lindsay O'Keefe net her first collegiate goal in the 58
th minute off of an assist from
Gianna Coppola. Coppola would then find the back of the net herself for her first collegiate goal just over two minutes later. In the 64th minute,
Nina Carlson net the first goal of her collegiate career from an O'Keefe assist. The firsts continued for the Lions, as
Ava Garay scored her first collegiate goal off an
Alexa Pestritto assist in the 72
nd minute to make it 7-0 TCNJ.
TCNJ will resume action for the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7 when it will face Moravian College at 1:00 p.m.
