No. 3/8 Women's Soccer Tops Moravian for Third Straight Win

EWING, N.J. – The No. 3/8 TCNJ women's soccer team defeated Moravian College by a final score of 3-0 on Saturday. The Lions improved to 3-0-0 on the young season, while the Greyhounds dropped to 1-2-0.

The Lions scored just 26 seconds into the game. Despina Lianidis was fouled inside of the box on a strong take to set up a penalty kick. Kelly Carolan took the PK, and her shot was saved by the Moravian keeper. However, the rebound went right back to Carolan who punched it in to make it 1-0. The goal marked the first of the season for her.

The 1-0 score held throughout the opening period. TCNJ out-shot Moravian 9-2 in the first half.

Just like she did in the first half, Carolan struck again very early in the second as she scored  over a minute in. From inside of the box, Taylor Nolan passed it back to Carolan who was about 15 yards out. Carolan buried a left-footed shot to extend the lead to 2-0.

TCNJ controlled the pace of the game, and the strong defensive front of Ally DeRiggi, Nora Burdge, Faith Eichenour, and Jess Hall limited the Greyhound opportunities. Moravian tallied only four shots on the afternoon.

The Lions added an insurance goal in the 77th minute. Burdge found Nina Carlson on the left side, and Carlson made a terrific run up the sideline. She outran the defender and punched it inside of the left post to make it a 3-0 game. The goal marked the second of the year for Carlson.

TCNJ won its third consecutive game with the win today. The Lions will return to the pitch for a ranked match-up against Johns Hopkins on Sept. 11. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. in Lions Stadium.
