EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's tennis team proved why they were the preseason favorite to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference Sunday. In their first two dual matches of the year, the Lions (2-0, 2-0 NJAC) defeated both Rutgers-Camden (0-2, 0-2 NJAC) and Rutgers-Newark (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) by identical 9-0 scores.

TCNJ received strong performances up and down the lineup. TCNJ started with a sweep in doubles play against the Scarlet Raptors.
Liya Davidov and
Katrine Luddy combined for an 8-3 win at number one. Davidov, the reigning NJAC Player of the Year, would win all four of her matches on the day.

Charlotte Roarty and
Alexandra Vasile had strong debuts in conference play with an 8-1 win at number two. Roarty won four matches on the day, while Vasile won a pair of doubles matches and a singles match.

Jenny Landells and
Navya Yemula won 8-0 at number three. Landells won both of her doubles matches without losing a game.

In singles play, all six Lions won in straight sets.
Audrey Chen was especially impressive, winning 6-0, 6-0 at number six.

Against the Scarlet Raiders, TCNJ swept the match without losing a single game on any court.
Amy Yan and
Ally Yan won at third doubles.

In singles play,
Julia Yoon won at third singles for her second win of the day.
Sarah Phung and
Ariella Shlugleyt each earned singles wins as well.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4 when they travel to Stockton. The Ospreys were picked to finish second by the league's coaches this season. Play begins at 4 p.m.
