BRONX, N.Y. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team defeated College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 3-1. The Lions improved to 6-1 on the season with the win today.
TCNJ got on the scoreboard first in the 30
th minute, when
Riley Furlong scored his first collegiate goal.
Justin Dominique sent in a cross that found the head of Furlong, and he punched it in to make it 1-0.
The Dolphins had a few scoring opportunities in the opening half, as they came up with seven shots. TCNJ keeper
Daniel Mecadon made three saves to keep the zero on the board.
Kevin Esteves put the Lions up 2-0 just over 11 minutes into the second half.
Sam Monaco found Esteves, who punched it in with a header for his second goal of the campaign.
The Dolphins tied it up in the 66
th minute with a goal from Sory Konate. TCNJ did not surrender the equalizer, and
Michael Maltese added an insurance goal in then 83
rd minute. Maltese converted on a penalty kick to make it a 3-1 lead, and the goal marked the first of the season for him.
The Lions out-shot the Dolphins 17-13 on the afternoon. Mecadon made six stops on the day to pick up his sixth victory of the season.
Next up for the Lions is Drew University at home on Sept. 18.
