No. 7/10 Women's Soccer Rolls Past Widener

EWING, N.J. – The No. 7/10 TCNJ women's soccer team defeated Widener University on Wednesday evening by a final score of 7-0. The Lions bumped their record to 5-1 while the Pride slipped to 5-2 on the season.

TCNJ struck fast, as it scored only five minutes into the game. Randi Smith sent in a corner kick that found Ally DeRiggi. DeRiggi sent in a looping header that found the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The Lions scored again in the 24th minute. Nina Carlson sent in a cross from the right side that found Julianna Bertolino in the center of the box. Bertolino one-timed it into the back right of the net to put TCNJ ahead 2-0. The goal was her second in as many games.

TCNJ added two more goals before the half concluded. Ally Weaver sent in a shot that was denied by the Widener keeper in the 38th minute, however Jessica O'Brien was in perfect position. She punched it in off of the rebound to make it 3-0. The goal was the first of her career. Carlson added a goal of her own in the 41st minute. After a defensive miscue, Carlson wound up with the ball 12 yards out and slipped a left-footed shot in to make it a 4-0 game.

In the second half, the balanced offensive attack continued to compliment the strong defensive effort. Julia Obst scored in the 70th minute. Alexandra Ryan made a nice run up the left side and found Obst with a cross to the center. Obst buried it to make it a 5-0 lead.

Less than five minutes later, Lindsay O'Keefe notched her first career goal to make it a 6-0 lead. Gianna Minerva sent a left to right cross that found O'Keefe nine yards out. She beat the keeper for her first career goal to put the Lions up by six.

TCNJ net the final goal in the 83rd minute. Emily Blankenship left it off for Gabriella Barquin on the left sideline. Barquin sent in a rocket left-footed shot that went in the top right corner of the net to make it 7-0. The goal marked the first of her career.

In net for TCNJ was Alexandra Panasuk, who recorded the shutout victory. Panasuk picked up a pair of saves on the evening.
