MAHWAH, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team battled to a tie with Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Saturday, 2-2. The Lions became 8-2-1 on the year including 0-1-1 in the conference, while Ramapo became 5-0-4 and 1-0-1 in the NJAC.
The Roadrunners struck first in the 18
th minute with a Bashkim Saiti goal. That 1-0 score held throughout the first half. TCNJ held a 7-5 shot advantage in the first period.
The Lions tied up the match in the 61
st minute with a goal from
Riley Furlong. He was set up by
Sam Monaco, and the goal marked the second of the season for Furlong.
Only 11 minutes later, the Lions went out in front.
Luke Yates net his second of the season with a header to make it a 2-1 lead. Ramapo tied up the match in the 88
th minute with a goal from Ariton Mimini.
In the second overtime,
Michael Maltese had a scoring opportunity but was stopped by the Ramapo keeper. In the 105
th minute,
Nicholas Franco sent in a shot yet it was saved by the keeper.
TCNJ kept the pressure on, as Yates had a couple of looks in the 107
th and 109
th minutes, but the keeper came up with the saves.
In net for the Lions was
Daniel Mecadon, who registered eight saves on the afternoon.
TCNJ returns to action on Oct. 2, when the Lions will host Rutgers-Camden for another NJAC match.
