GENEVA, N.Y. – The College of New Jersey men's tennis team competed in day two of the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament Saturday. The Lions will continue to play on day three for the first time since 2015 when Pierce Cooper reached the singles semi-finals.

Matthew Michibata won both of his day two matches to advance to the semifinals.

Michibata faced Abraham Yohaness of RPI. Yohaness, a freshman, was making a fantastic run in his first regional. Michibata made quick work of his opponent, winning 6-3, 6-1. Michibata then faced Jack McClaren of Skidmore in the quarterfinals. McClaren was making his first quarterfinal appearance and Michibata started off strong taking the opening set 6-2. Michibata followed up with an equally good performance in the second set, winning 6-3 to reach the semi-finals.

Michibata will now face Alan Dubrovsky in the semifinals. Dubrovsky is the top seed and reigning regional champion in both singles and doubles. Michibata, the four seed, will look to become the first regional singles champion for the Lions since current assistant Mike Klimchak in 2007.

Wain faced second seed JT Wynne of Skidmore in the round of 16. Wain, focusing on singles this season, was proving the decision correct. He took the first set 6-4. Wynne fought back in the second set to win 6-2 and even the match. Wynne finally broke through late in the third set to win 7-5.

Wain closes out his sophomore fall at 3-1 in singles play.

Thomas Wright & Gokul Murugesan

Wright and Murugesan faced defending regional champions Alan Dubrovsky and Walker Anderson in the doubles quarterfinals. The Lions seniors saw their run come to an end with an 8-3 defeat to the reigning champions.

Wright ends his senior fall with a 6-4 doubles record. Murugesan closes out his senior fall 5-3.
