No. 5/7 Women's Soccer Runs Past Ramapo

EWING, N.J. –  The No. 5/7 TCNJ women's soccer team topped Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match on Saturday by a final score of 5-0. The Lions bumped their record to 8-1-0 and 2-0-0 in the conference on the year, while the Roadrunners fell to 4-4-1 and 0-1-1 in the conference. The win was the fifth straight for the Lions.

The Lions scored first just under five minutes into the game. Nora Burdge took a shot from the top of the box that was deflected. The rebound went to Nikki Butler who was in close by the left post. Butler punched it in to give TCNJ an early 1-0 advantage. The goal was the fourth of the season for Butler.

In the first half, the Lions out-shot the Roadrunners 22-1.

The Lions scored early again in the second period. In the 49th minute, Randi Smith sent in a corner kick that found Lauren McLaughlin in the center. From about four yards out, McLaughlin punched it in to make it a 2-0 lead. The goal was the first of the year for her.

TCNJ made it a 3-0 lead in the 59th minute. Smith sent in a shot that was saved by the Ramapo goalkeeper, but the rebound went right to Kelly Carolan. Carolan buried it for her fifth goal of the season.

Caroline Rubin scored from the right end line in the 77th minute to make it a 4-0 advantage. The goal was her first of the season. Gianna Minerva net the final score in the 87th minute. Minerva made a strong run up the left sideline, and slipped it inside of the left post from ten yards out for her first career goal.

Nicole DiPasquale picked up the shutout win in net for the Lions.

TCNJ dominated the pace of the game, and the Lions out-shot Ramapo 41-1 on the afternoon.

TCNJ returns to action on Oct. 2, when it will travel to Rutgers-Camden for another NJAC match.
