HAVERFORD, Pa. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win to start the season on Saturday. TCNJ topped Hampden-Sydney in the first day of the Jimmy Mills Tournament by a 1-0 tally.
In the first half, Hampden-Sydney applied the pressure on the Lion defense as it registered nine shots. TCNJ goalkeeper
Daniel Mecadon continued his strong play as he pitched the shutout. Mecadon came up with a save just under three minutes into the game off of a corner kick. The Lions had a look in the 19
th minute, yet
Matthew Nastarowicz's shot sailed high. The match went into halftime scoreless, thanks in part to three saves from Mecadon.
TCNJ broke through just about ten minutes into the second half.
Michael Maltese connected on a cross with
Ryan Vazquez, and Vazquez punched in a header to put the Lions out on top. The goal was the third on the season for Vazquez, and Maltese earned his second helper of the year.
The shutout was the second straight for Mecadon. He currently has a goals against average of just 0.48 on the year and a save percentage of .895.
The Lions will round out the Jimmy Mills Tournament hosted by Haverford College tomorrow. TCNJ will take on Centre College at 12:00 p.m.
