HAVERFORD, Pa. – The College of New Jersey men's soccer team was defeated by Centre College on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 4-0. The loss was the first of the season for the Lions, who now stand at 4-1. Centre improved to 3-0-1 on the young season.
Centre broke through about 10 minutes into the game with a Dylan Barth goal to take a 1-0 lead. The Colonels struck again in the 26
th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. The Lions had an opportunity with just over three minutes to play in the half.
Kevin Esteves sent in a corner kick that found
Sam Monaco, yet Monaco's shot went wide.
In the second half, Centre made it 3-0 in the 57
th minute.
Paul Tepedino had a look in the 60
th minute, but his shot went high.
Ryan Vazquez sent one in four minutes later but was denied by the Centre keeper. The Colonels were able to control the rest of the game to hold onto the win.
In net for the Lions was
Daniel Mecadon, who came up with eight saves on the afternoon.
Next up for TCNJ is a road game at FDU-Florham on Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m.
