MAHWAH, N.J. – The TCNJ men's basketball team was defeated by Ramapo College on Saturday by a final score of 73-60. The Lions slipped to 7-7 on the year including 4-3 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action, while the Roadrunners improved to 7-7 and 3-4 in the conference.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first nine minutes of action. With over eight minutes to play in the first half,
Travis Jocelyn hit a jumper off of a
Randall Walko assist to make it 18-10 Ramapo. On the next possession for TCNJ, Jocelyn drilled a trifecta after a
P.J. Ringel assist.
Ramapo pushed the lead to 35-16 with under three minutes to play in the first half.
Mike Walley's three ball cut it to a 16 point lead, then Walko net a jumper to pull the Lions within 14. Ramapo took a 40-21 lead heading into halftime.
In the first five minutes of the second period, the Lions trimmed the deficit to 14 with a 7-0 stretch. Walko converted on a lay-up, then hit a free throw a couple of possessions later. Walley scored from in close to cut the lead to 42-27, then Jocelyn made a free throw the next time down after grabbing an offensive rebound.
Ryan Jensen struck from long distance to cut the Roadrunner lead to 49-34 with nine minutes to play. Jensen continued to produce offense, as he scored five more points to pull TCNJ within 52-39.
The Lions continued the comeback effort, and got to as close as eight points. With over four minutes to go Walley hit from behind the arc to make it a 58-49 game.
After Ramapo got a bucket on the other end, Walko hit the three this time for TCNJ to cut the deficit to 60-52. That was as close as the Roadrunners would allow the Lions to get, as Ramapo was able to control the last few minutes to hang onto the win.
Jocelyn scored 20 points to lead the Lions, and he also grabbed four rebounds. Walko totaled 15 points and eight boards. Jensen put up 14 points and six rebounds, while Walley recorded 11 points on the afternoon.
The Lions will return to action on Jan. 15, when they will square off against William Paterson at home. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
