EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's tennis team won the final two singles matches Sunday to come from behind and defeat Haverford College 5-4. The win kept the 40
th-ranked Lions' record unblemished at 7-0. The Fords dropped to 0-1.
With TCNJ trailing 4-3,
Julia Yoon and
Jenny Landells each dropped their first set. Yoon fought back to win the second set, 7-5, at number five. As Yoon began to pull away in the third, Landells was tied 5-5 in the second set at number six. Landells would win two straight games to take the set and force a deciding third. Landells got an early break to take a 2-1 lead in the deciding set. Landells would earn another break on her way to a 5-1 lead before clinching the match with a 6-2 victory.
The Lions took a 2-1 lead in doubles play.
Anusha Rangu and Alexandria Vasile got the Lions an early lead with an 8-3 win at number three.
Liya Davidov and
Katrine Luddy won 8-5 at number one. The Fords fought back with an 8-5 victory at number two.
The Fords tied the match with a straight set win at fourth singles.
Charlotte Roarty briefly gave TCNJ the lead back with a 6-3, 6-3 win at number two. Three-set Haverford victories at number three and number one set up the dramatic finish.
The Lions return to action when they travel to Wellesley College on Feb. 23.
