CAMDEN, N.J. - The No. 1 TCNJ women's soccer team overcame a spirited defensive effort by Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday night, as
Victoria D'Imperio's goal just past the midway point of the second half lifted the Lions to a 1-0 NJAC victory.
TCNJ (12-0, 6-0) fired off 15 shots while permitting just one, but it took the visitors until well into the second stanza to pierce the Scarlet Raptors' wall. The breakthrough finally came in the 71st minute, when D'Imperio headed in a corner kick by
Amelia Curtis to account for the contest's lone marker.
Rutgers-Camden (4-7-1, 2-3-1) parked the bus in the first half and the strategy paid off as the hosts limited the unbeaten Lions to just four shots. TCNJ's attack built steadily after halftime, with
Julia Obst forcing a save and
Ava Garay seeing a shot cleared off the line. Curtis hit the crossbar just shy of the hour-mark and had another effort saved four minutes later.
Curtis initiated the winning sequence with a well-placed corner that found the head of D'Imperio, who put it past Rutgers-Camden keeper Kayla McKeveer for her third goal of the season. Curtis' assist was her fourth of the year, tying
Gianna Minerva for the team lead.
Ava Curtis paced TCNJ with five shots.
Alexandra Panasuk was not forced to make a save in earning her sixth solo shutout of the campaign.
The Lions are back home on Saturday, when they welcome Ramapo to Lions Stadium for an Alumni Day showdown.
