MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The No. 1 TCNJ women's soccer team fell behind for the first time this season on Saturday at Montclair State. The Red Hawks scored in the ninth minute to take a 1-0 lead, but the Lions stormed back with three goals in the first half to win, 3-1.
Much like on Wednesday when Rowan scored to tie the game in the second half and the Lions responded strongly, the Lions came back with the equalizer just seven minutes after the MSU goal.
Nikki Butler got that first goal in the 16
th minute, scoring on a feed from
Amelia Curtis. Butler becomes the 10
th TCNJ player this season with multiple goals.
Victoria D'Imperio put the Lions ahead with an unassisted goal in the 32
nd minute, and
Jessica O'Brien snuck in an insurance tally just 88 seconds before halftime to boost the TCNJ lead to 3-1.
TCNJ outshot Montclair, 11-4, in the first half on its way to the two-goal advantage. For the game, TCNJ outshot Montclair, 17-9, and won in shots on goal, 11-3.
Julia Obst and
Emma Pascarella each led the Lions with three shots.
Alexandra Panasuk made two saves in net.
The top-ranked Lions return to action on Tuesday at Penn State Berks.
