Men's Soccer Blanks Ramapo for Fifth Straight Win

MAHWAH, N.J. – Five was the magic number for the TCNJ men's soccer team on Wednesday as the Lions staved off Ramapo for a critical 1-0 NJAC victory.

Justin Dominique scored for the fifth straight game, logging the lone goal of the afternoon in the 20th minute to ultimately hand the red-hot Lions their fifth consecutive victory. With the win, the second on the road this season, TCNJ brought itself to the cusp of an NJAC tournament berth; currently tied for third place with Rowan and Stockton, the Lions can clinch a playoff spot with a win against Kean on Saturday.

In addition to Dominique's continued run of form, TCNJ needed a big performance from goalie Julian Franco to escape with three points in hand. The sophomore made three saves in the first five minutes, eventually matching a season high with nine to render moot a 21-7 shot advantage for the Roadrunners.

Dominique, who registered all but one of the Lions' shots on the day, broke through on the stroke of 20 minutes after the junior had forced a pair of saves from the Ramapo keeper. Ryan Phillips sent in a cross from the left side, and a Roadrunner defender got a slight deflection on it before the ball found the foot of Dominique, who laced it home to put the blue and gold on top.

TCNJ withstood more pressure in the second half as Ramapo enjoyed an 11-1 discrepancy in shots, Franco turning away four more attempts. The Roadrunners earned 10 corner kicks to the Lions' one, but were unable to make any inroads against a TCNJ squad that has notched three clean sheets in its last four outings.

Franco made several sensational saves, including one a one-on-one in the box after Ramapo's Massimo Gallorini was played in all alone. Franco somehow managed to tip the hard shot just over the crossbar.

Phillips tallied his fourth assist of the season, one behind Luke Pascarella for the team lead. The Lions' five-game winning streak is the team's longest since a 7-0 start to the 2018 campaign.

TCNJ returns to Lions Stadium to take on Kean on Saturday.
