MANHEIM, Pa. – Six TCNJ wrestlers won their pools to headline a strong performance at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on Sunday.

The Lions made their presence felt as the only Division III program in attendance at the loaded event hosted by Spooky Nook Sports. Jake Giordano (133), Michael Conklin (141), Domenic Difrancescantonio (141), Matt Sacco (157), Dan Surich (184), and Alex Kostantas (197) all emerged undefeated from their pools.

Giordano pulled out three close bouts at 133, edging VMI's Michael Tandurella (5-3) and George Mason's Michael Rapuano (6-3) to set up a showdown with Pitt's Mason Myers for the pool title. The Lions' star prevailed in that one as well, using takedowns in the first and second period to provide enough cushion for a 5-3 triumph.

Conklin was terrific in his first college tournament, rolling to three dominating victories. He cruised to a 12-1 major decision against LIU's Jacob Zuller, then notched an 8-2 win over Millersville's Joshua Tuckey and pinned Sacred Heart's Nick Demarco to seal his 3-0 day.

Difrancescantonio blanked Bloomsburg's Tal-reese Flemming (7-0) and Gannon's Parker Loera (9-0) to book a championship bout with Hofstra's Tyler Cymmerman. The TCNJ junior registered first- and second-period takedowns and used a pair of escapes in the third to see out a 6-4 victory.

Sacco was in control throughout, routing Sacred Heart's Thomas Eboli, 10-1, and Corbin Saul of Davis and Elkins, 9-1, before sealing his pool crown with a 7-3 defeat of Gannon's Nicholas Coreno.

Surich dominated his three opponents, racking up two pins and a tech fall. He needed just 81 seconds to take Sacred Heart's Michael Molina and piled up 15 unanswered points on Davis and Elkins' Michael Schneider before dropping VMI's Justin Hart in 3:43.

Kostantas needed to battle for all three of his wins at 197, and the rookie did just that. He had two takedowns and a reverse in an 8-5 defeat of Army's Thomas Godbee and sealed a 6-3 win over Hofstra's Nikolas Miller with another takedown. Kostantas trailed Pitt's William Small by a 3-1 count in the third, but escaped to start the frame and turned the tables with a go-ahead takedown that held up for a huge 4-3 decision.

Nick Golden placed second in his 174-pound pool thanks to a pair of pins, the first against LIU's Michael Parrish in just 1:03 and another in 46 seconds opposite Pitt's James Weber.

Peter Wersinger matched Golden's second-place showing in his heavyweight pool. The junior defeated Hofstra's Noah Bila, 7-2, and LIU's Aeden Begue, 10-3.

Reid Colella took third place at 174, starting with a 48-second pin of Sacred Heart's Sebastian Ford and racking up a 19-1 technical fall against VMI's Joel Diaz in the third-place tilt.

James Romaine won his opener at 165 by an 8-4 count over Sacred Heart's Nicholas Eboli and fell just short of a 2-1 day when he dropped a 3-2 nail-biter to LIU's Blake Bahna in the third-place bout.

Matt Surich won his third match at 157 via pin, and Quinn Haddad captured his first bout with a technical fall.

Thomas Marretta edged Harvard's Jeffrey Crooks, 2-0, in his third and final match of the day.

The Lions welcome York (Pa.) to Packer Hall for their first home dual on Friday.
