Women's Soccer Trio Garners All-America Honors

12/2/2021 9:10:00 AM

USC Division III All-Americans

Three TCNJ women's soccer players received All-America recognition from the United Soccer Coaches (USC), the organization announced.

Senior defender Jess Hall and junior midfielder Gianna Coppola were named to the Division III All-America first team, while senior goalkeeper Alexandra Panasuk was selected to the second team.

The prestigious honors cap a season full of individual accolades for the trio, who were all named player of the year by the NJAC at their respective positions and have been instrumental in leading the Lions to the NCAA semifinals and the doorstep of a national championship.

Hall, the NJAC defender of the year, is the lynchpin of one of the nation's stingiest defenses. She has logged more than 86 minutes per game for a Lions squad that has conceded only six goals all season. TCNJ allows less than six shots per contest to its opponents.

Coppola is a big part of the Lions' versatile attack. The NJAC midfielder of the year, she is tied for second on the team in goals (7) while ranking third in points (17). Coppola has made her mark on TCNJ's NCAA Tournament run, scoring an insurance goal in a 3-1 Sweet 16 victory over Scranton and assisting on Nikki Butler's second-half game-winner over William Smith in the Elite 8.

Panasuk has saved her best goalkeeping for the most important moments. She made three saves in a penalty shootout against Rowan in the NJAC title game, allowing the Lions to overcome a 2-0 deficit after two rounds and secure their fourth consecutive league title.

Panasuk made five saves in a second-round victory over Messiah and racked up seven to preserve a 1-0 blanking of William Smith in the regional final. Sixteen of her 38 saves this season have come in the NCAA Tournament, and Panasuk has backstopped the Lions to 17 total shutouts this season.
