Setaro’s Hot Shooting Helps Women's Hoops to Fourth Win in a Row

CAMDEN, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team remained undefeated in the 2021 season with a win over Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. The Lions topped the Scarlet Raptors, 82-65, for their fourth-straight win. Julia Setaro led all scorers with 29 points and shot a red hot 7-of-10 from three-point range.

The Lions used a 12-4 run in the third quarter to grab a 51-32 lead. Sydney Blum scored a lay-up from an Elle Cimilluca assist to make it a 43-28 TCNJ lead. A few possessions later, Setaro converted on a lay-up that stretched the lead to 45-28.

The run was punctuated by a Shannon Devitt bucket that bumped the edge to 51-32 with 2:16 left to play in the third quarter. Natalie Miller scored a lay-up with eight seconds in the third that gave the Lions a 55-36 advantage heading into the fourth.

Rutgers-Camden hung around and shrank the lead to as little as 12 with 5:26 to play, but Blum countered with back-to-back three-pointers. Her second trifecta put TCNJ up, 73-55, with 4:28 left in the game.

In the second quarter, an 8-0 TCNJ run with all of the points coming from Setaro put the Lions ahead 33-21. Blum scored a put-back with 33 seconds left in the half that gave TCNJ a 39-28 edge that the Lions took into the locker room.

Setaro shot 11-of-16 from the field on the afternoon and also grabbed three steals. Devitt finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Blum scored 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Cimilluca tallied five assists.

The Lions will return to the court to face Kean next weekend. Game one will be in Union on Feb. 19 at 5:00 p.m.
