Women’s Hoops Completes Undefeated Regular Season on Senior Day

EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's basketball team completed an undefeated regular season on Saturday. TCNJ defeated William Paterson, 61-49, to run the table and improve to 8-0.

The Lions finish the regular season as one of two NJAC teams to go undefeated. Montclair State also ran the table at 6-0 in conference play. Details of the NJAC Tournament will be announced in the near future.

"I'm thrilled for our team and four seniors that we've been able to earn the title of undefeated in the regular season," TCNJ head coach Chessie Jackson said. "This group has been working so hard, and I have confidence that it will pay off in the playoffs. We're excited to get back to work to prepare for our next opponent, one day at a time."

TCNJ held a slim 25-22 lead at the half, but a huge 26-9 third quarter propelled the Lions to a sizeable advantage. The Lions raced out to a 19-4 run from the 8:13 mark to the 1:13 mark in the third quarter.

Jane Beiermeister jump-started the run with a steal that led to a fast-break lay-up. Two TCNJ possessions later, Beiermeister found Shannon Devitt under the hoop, and Devitt scored the bucket to put TCNJ up by eight.

After a pair of Nikki Alexatos free throws, Devitt scored the next eight points for TCNJ. Her lay-up with 3:18 to go extended the lead to 43-29. Devitt recorded her 48th career double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds.

A Morgan Heller jumper pushed the lead to 16. Three-pointers from Sydney Blum and Elle Cimilluca stretched the lead to 51-31 by the end of the third quarter.

The Lions came out of the gate fast and raced out to a 17-2 edge in the first quarter. Alexatos and Heller both drained a three-pointer to give TCNJ the early 15-point advantage with 4:41 to play in the first quarter.

Blum finished the afternoon with 10 points and four steals. Alexatos tallied nine points coming off of the bench, while Cimilluca scored five points to pair with six assists. Natalie Miller scored six points on a pair of three-pointers.

Prior to the game, the Lions held Senior Day to honor Beiermeister, Cimilluca, Devitt, and Miller. These Lions have been a part of 63 wins over the course of the last four seasons.
