Match Preview: Wrestling at Messiah

2/5/2021 11:15:00 AM

When: Saturday, Feb. 6 - Noon

How to Watch: Mat 1/Mat 2

Rosters: TCNJ/Messiah

2019-20 Stats: TCNJ/Messiah

History: The teams split a pair of duals during the 2019-20 season. The Lions won, 38-3, on their way to the Budd Whitehill Dual Championship. Messiah won the rematch between the teams, 21-18.

Key matches: The match at 133 pounds will be the premier match of the day. Two-time All-American Jake Giordano enters the season ranked no. 2 in the weight class. He will match up against former NCAA Qualifier Josiah Gehr of Messiah. Gehr opens the season ranked no. 8 in weight class. Giordano won the match, 5-3, when the pair met at the Budd Whitehill Duals last season.

The match at 149 pounds should be an interesting pair of returning All-Americans. Robert Dinger and Garret Cornell both earned All-America honors at 141 pounds a season ago, and are making the move up a weight class. Cornell defeated Dinger, 14-6, last season.

Keep an eye out at 125 pounds. TCNJ's Nick Denora was ranked ninth in the weight class early in the 2019-20 season while filling in for eventual All-American Dan Ortega. He matches up against Sean Redington, who earned All-America honors for the Falcons a season ago.
