Men’s Hoops Edged by Stockton in NJAC Semifinals

EWING, N.J. – In the NJAC Semifinals, The College of New Jersey men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought game to Stockton, 65-58. The Lions close out the 2021 season with a 7-1 record.

Stockton opened up an 18-point, 42-24, lead two minutes into the second half, yet the Lions got back into it with a vicious comeback. The Ospreys went up, 52-37, with 12:51 remaining, but a 13-3 TCNJ run pulled the Lions within 55-50.

Jim Clemente recorded a lay-up after hitting a pair of free throws to get the run started. After TCNJ got a stop on the defensive end, Anthony DiCaro knocked down a jumper to pull within 52-43. Luciano Lubrano of Stockton hit a three-pointer on the other end, then DiCaro recorded a pair of free throws to make it a 55-45 Osprey lead.

A few possessions later, P.J. Ringel grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a fast-break lay-up. He was also fouled and hit the free throw for a three-point play.

The senior point guard continued to attack the basket, as his jumper in the paint with 6:36 remaining pulled the Lions within 55-50.

With 2:34 left in the game, the Lions tied up the game by way of a DiCaro three-pointer. His trifecta notched things up at 58-58. The Ospreys had the answer on the other end by way of a Tariq Baker three-pointer. Stockton's defense did not allow TCNJ to score again in the final two minutes, and the Ospreys hit the free throws to seal the win.

Ringel led TCNJ with 14 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. He finishes his career with 294 assists, which is third place all-time in TCNJ history. Ringel also grabbed 264 rebounds and 119 steals in his career.

DiCaro tallied 12 points with three rebounds, while Jason Larranaga recorded 10 points and five rebounds.

Travis Jocelyn grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go with six points. Jocelyn finishes his career with 110 three-pointers, which is 12th all-time in TCNJ history. He scored 863 points and tallied 334 rebounds in his career.
